Seeing Syracuse.

Client: Syracuse Poster Project

Objective: Create a poster that highlights local Syracuse writers and artists

Insight: Viewers connect more deeply when they can complete or solve a thought themselves

Big Idea: Create a visual experience that lets viewers fill in the blanks allowing them to complete the image before revealing the full image

Visual

The whole concept to “Seeing Syracuse” is to use a slow fade animation of Syracuse collage photos in the background. This approach allows you to see the outlines of Syracuse and the personal characteristics of what makes Syracuse unique. The regularity created through the transparency lines for the print version lets you see the collage photos through the map lines throughout the poster. Although you can not see all of the images, the transparency allows people to use their imagination and and fill in the gaps of the photos that are not seen.

Audience

I wanted the visual to be pleasing and easy to read to target a large local audience. The visual hierarchy I used was a standard Z pattern.Although the poster is made up of lots of images, the poster itself is clean and sleek looking. I want- ed readers’ eyes to be directed to the headline at the top left corner and work in zig zags when uncovering the poster with their eyes. I used ITC AVANT GARDE GOTHIC pro bold and book for a dainty sleek, but artist Iook. I wanted the pictures in the collage to incorporate Syracuse culture to attract locals to the event.
